In the end they still feel like strangers. Progressing with the factions and bonding with the NPCs is just dull. Later it turned out that it had a lot of last minute changes in the story so they couldn't fix it properly. The story was ok, but sometimes I thought that the dialogues we're odd. That would be still ok with me, if it would be fun. In the end it was "just" a loot shooter like destiny. The thing that upset me most was the advertising compared with the end result. I had my fair share of bugs but that is something I can deal with.
I recently bought "The Art of Anthem" for a discounted price and am really hoping that they can somehow deliver on their original vision in 2.0. I would have been able to look past all the gameplay issues if they just delivered on their original promise of creating a true BioWare experience with the option to play with friends. I really could immersive myself in the world of Anthem but the lack of depth killed it for me. The biggest disappointment for me was what has been stated here before: The missed potential. More and more people left the Discord and I didn't even finish the main game. Since this was my come back as a gamer I was devestated. When the game finally released we were thrilled to finally play it but realised that this was not the game BioWare had promised us. Even went as far as framing and hanging pictures of the four javelins near my newly built gaming rig. I spent hours developing a back story for my character and took screenshots of the in game codex entries. So intrigued that I sarted saving money for a new PC at some point and even created an Anthem Role Playing Discord server. When I saw the first trailer of the game I was intrigued. This is coming from the button of my heart: Before Anthem I had mostly quit gaming and was just more and more angry with the direction of the industry as a whole. I really hope that Bioware can fix the loot, stat, and end game problems that are preventing so many from experiencing one of the most uniquely amazing games I have ever played. Dumbing the gameplay down by calling this a shooter is insulting. There is no game that can deliver the experience I have with Anthem. Bioware, you freaking did it! I love controlling my javelin. The Mechanics - Never has flight felt so good in all of gaming history. Whoever made the barrel roll animation it is truly one of the greatest feeling things in all of gaming! Conversely, as soon as I touch the jump button with the Interceptor, I'm springing to the apex of my leap in a fraction of a second. When I take flight in the massive Colossus the animation screams to me that this Thicc Boi wants nothing more than to stay grounded as it's monstrous jet engine struggles to lift the tanky body. The highly detailed animations of each specific javelin bring them to life and differentiate the play style immensely. This game is gorgeous, but more importantly it feels great to be in the world. Creating new worlds is incredibly difficult, but it's a world I never want to leave.Īrt - Every developer on the art team hit it out of the park. It's a place where the environments do as much story telling as the characters, and the sense of exploration is incredible. World Building - Every single environment, creature, abandoned piece of architecture, and javelin in Bastion feel uniquely alien but familiar at the same time. So, for this Anniversary post let me list a few: What we don't here often enough is what Anthem got right.
Bioware's development was rocky, and there are many who believe Anthem will never recover from it's rough launch. It has been the first game in a long time to really capture my imagination.
